Book Giveaway: Win 1 of 3 copies of The New Jumper by Oliver Jeffers (Closed)

The Goodbye Oliver Giveaway

Oliver Jeffers has just a few days left of his Australia/NZ tour and, together with HarperCollins Australia, he’s leaving behind three copies of his latest book, The Hueys in the New Jumper, for My Little Bookcase to giveaway.

You could be mistaken for thinking this is a simple book by Oliver Jeffers. He has certainly stepped away from using the rich, lustrous colours we’ve come to love in his picture books. But, any sign of simplicity ends with the predominately colourless illustrations; the meaning behind the story of The Hueys in The New Jumper (The New Jumper) is incredibly philosophical. READ MORE ABOUT THE HUEYS IN THE NEW JUMPER.

  1. I’m just excited there is a new Oliver Jeffers book out there!! Yay!! I’m trying my best to instill a sense of individuality and uniqueness in my daughter. She’s only 21 months old and I love how she is truly her own personality. She hasn’t been coerced by society to do anything she hasn’t wanted to do. I hope she always is brave enough to be a leader and only follow people or causes she is passionate about.

I Am so looking forward to introducing some new friends to Bebito and I love the “moral” behind many of his stories too. They help bring up a Lot of important things for us to discuss with Bebito. We have had a great play with The Huey website & spent an hour playing today!

Anything that builds esteem and dignity and love and life into my girls – the better. And the ‘Hueys’ do that! Such a simple story, with such an important truth. Oliver Jeffers is a champion!!

Quirky, succinct, affirming individuality all with Oliver Jeffers unique style. LOVE it!

  6. I’m so excited about this book! I still remember finding Oliver’s very first book and falling in love. I’ve been following his career ever since. I love how beautifully he manages to capture a child’s worldview, and a perfect balance between playfulness and heart. And I love images with lots of white space, so I’m particularly excited about this new illustration style of his :)

Fabulous! Can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of this book. Without having read the book yet, what appeals to me most is the message it is sending – that it is ok to be different, to be creative, to mix things up and stand up strong and tall. The illustrations are pretty darn cute too!

  8. I am looking forward to being a grandmother and would love a copy of The New Jumper to read to my grandchildren! I think this book is a wonderful way to show that it’s o.k. to be different and when you are true to yourself you can influence society in positive ways!

  9. A new book by Oliver Jeffers and a story about a jumper – what a winning combination!

All the little egg heads on the cover! Do they get new jumpers too?

  11. Joanne said: On May 25, 2012

This book arouses my curiosity. Every child wants to be really seen, in the deepest sense of the word. I wonder if that is what the book is about?

  12. I love the cute little illustrations – it inspires me to write my own book!

I like that the simplicity of the visual design is arresting in an of itself, as well as still adding to the thought-provoking of the actual message of the story. It also seems to illustrate the very real and awkward stage of childhood and beyond of trying to both fit in and still stand out.

  14. I love that Oliver’s new book engages the reader more, making them think more about society and how we follow each other. Small kids will see it as a fun book with simple drawings and splashes of bright colour, but older kids and adults will see it as so much more. I love a book with layers!

I love how the book encourages individuality. It is so easy for children to follow trends instead of working out what they like and what makes them special.

  16. A story about embracing our individuality certainly appeals to me. It’s a great message for children to ponder too.

  17. I love the concept of promoting the fact that its ok to be different and stand out from the crowd!

  18. I love that this book celebrates being different, thats something that kids really need to take in and learn from.

  19. I love the sweet and simple drawings, they are what make the books unique :)

  20. This book is all about individuality, standing out from the crowd, rising above the rest, celebrating your unique self and being confident in your own skin. Love how the text is simple yet rich in it’s message and appealing to both children and adults. It’s a pleasure to read and share with young kids and definitely suits a wide range of age groups.

  21. I’m a little embarrassed to say my answer… I have no idea who Oliver Jeffers is… so, now that I see everyone else so excited, the thing I’M most excited about is the chance to see who this is that everyone is raving about!! Oh, and the cover looks SUPER cute! Thanks for sharing!

What an amazing little story this seems to offer. Would love to have a copy to read to our little Cooper

  23. My daughter is at the age now where she would appreciate Oliver Jeffer’s new book – The Huey’s in the new jumper. I want my daughter to know that it’s ok to be different and it’s awesome to acknowledge other people’s differences and accept them for who they are.

  24. The quirkiness of the characters – I love quirkiness!

Thanks to everyone for entering. :)
