The Children’s Book Festival is back in 2012 for a huge celebration of ideas and imagination.
We thoroughly enjoyed the event in 2011, and we were blown away by the amazing program put together by The Wheeler Centre and the State Library of Victoria.
- Along with many other talented authors and illustrators, we met Mem Fox and Roland Harvey who were launching their latest book, The Little Dragon.
- We enjoyed energetic performances by writers and library staff.
- We met Yoyo (From Yoyo Goes to Play Group), Peter Rabbit and The Green Sheep.
Sunday 25 March will see the festival return to the heart of Melbourne. Best of all, every event is free for all to enjoy and no bookings are required.
Here are some of the highlights we think you should look out for at this full-day family event:
- With such a huge crowd, the State Library lawns were a buzz in 2011. So in 2012, families will find the pram valet parking a welcome convenience.
- The State Library lawn: face painting, marquees, musical acts and a Teddy Bear’s Picnic
- Dress as your favourite character and enter the Best Costume Competition for some exciting prizes.
- Little Lonsdale Street: A petting zoo and marquees full of activities, including: arts and crafts; publishing your own book; author appearances and lucky dips.
- The Wheeler Centre: (176 Little Lonsdale Street): Meet these amazing authors and illustrators who will be talking about their stories and characters: Andy Griffiths, Hazel Edwards, Graeme Base, Boori Monty Pryor, Alison Lester, Anna Walker, Mark Wilson, Sally Rippin, Leigh Hobbs, Gabrielle Wang, Anna Pignataro and Bernard Caleo.
- Inside the Library, visit Experimedia for storytelling or go along to Queen’s Hall, where you can discover authors and illustrators running workshops on all things books and pictures.
- Village Roadshow Theatrette (Latrobe Street): A range of theatrical performances.
