Welcome to our master index of book lists. Every list below has been read, discussed, and curated by our editorial team — Lila (lead book reviewer), Joel (craft and projects), and Mia (Year 1 teacher consultant). Each list links straight through to detailed reviews, age guidance, and ways to use the books at home.
We’ve grouped 28 book lists across six themes. Pick a category that matches what you’re reading for — a birthday gift, a seasonal moment, a reading-readiness push, or just “something good for tonight.”

How we build our lists
Every book list on this page follows the same editorial standard. We read every title before it makes the list (no roundups built from press releases). Each book gets a real review with age guidance, format notes, and a sense of when it actually lands at home. Our top-tier lists also include a practical “how to read these with your kids” section and a small FAQ — written in the same voice you’d get if you cornered us at a school fete.
If you’d like a list we don’t have yet — or want a curated set for a specific situation (kids dealing with grief, a friend’s first baby, a long flight) — tell us via the contact page. We maintain a small list of “requested lists” and work through them in order.
Affiliate disclosure
Lists marked Editor’s pick include affiliate links to Amazon AU. As an Amazon Associate, My Little Bookcase earns a small commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. Every recommendation on this page is made on editorial grounds — we don’t accept paid placements on lists.
