Laura Peterson’s illustrations are rich and full of depth. They may appear more vibrant and colorful than the real Venice (there is no rain to be seen in this picture book) but they are incredibly luscious and romantic.
The story follows Marco, a young boy, who would like to become a gondolier like his father. He charms a group of tourists who leave their cameras behind. Marco embarks on a chase through Venice to find them.
